Bit-Pirate

A pocket multi-protocol hardware tool for your Attaky — scan, sniff and talk to I²C, SPI, UART and more from a terminal.

Bit-Pirate turns Attaky Core into a Bus Pirate-style bench tool. Connect to it from a computer over USB serial or from any browser over Wi-Fi, pick a mode, and wire your device to the probe pins: the screen shows which pin goes where for the mode you chose.

Highlights

  • Many buses in one tool: I²C, SPI, UART, half-duplex UART, 1-Wire, 2-Wire and 3-Wire, plus digital I/O, PWM and a simple logic analyzer.
  • EEPROM and flash helpers: Scan buses, read and write registers, and dump or program common memory chips.
  • Wireless diagnostics: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE scanning and tools, and LoRa when the LoRa module is fitted.
  • Three ways in: USB serial, the device's own Wi-Fi hotspot with a web terminal, or your Wi-Fi network.
  • Wiring on screen: Each mode shows its pin assignment, so you can connect your device without looking anything up.
  • Scriptable: Bus Pirate-style byte syntax and files you can move in and out over the web interface.

Getting connected

Choose a terminal on the device with the arrow keys and the center key:

  • USB Serial — open a serial terminal on your computer at 115200 baud and press a key.
  • WiFi Hotspot — join the network the screen shows and open the address it shows in a browser.
  • WiFi Connect — join your own network. Typing the Wi-Fi password needs the bottom keyboard; without it, use USB Serial or WiFi Hotspot.

Type help for commands and mode to choose a mode.

Hardware

Bit-Pirate needs Attaky Core with the Breakout adapter board on the back, which brings the Core's signals out to probe pins. The bottom keyboard is optional. Battery modules are not supported by this firmware. Modes that need extra radio or interface hardware (for example sub-GHz, RFID, CAN or infrared) only work when that hardware is connected; their commands are still listed.

Use responsibly

Bit-Pirate is for education, diagnostics and interoperability testing on equipment you own or are allowed to test. Do not transmit without a suitable antenna, and follow the laws of your country for radio use and access to devices.

Install straight from the Attaky firmware store. Open this listing in your browser and flash it to your Attaky in one tap. There is nothing to download or install — the firmware store writes it to your device for you.
